Cool Facts about Lacrosse

• Lacrosse is the oldest sport in North America, with evidence of the game being played by Native Americans dating back to the 1300s.
• The lacrosse stick, or "crosse," is made up of a shaft and a head. The head of the stick is strung with a netting that is used to catch, throw, and carry the ball.
• Lacrosse is the fastest sport on two feet. Players can run up to 20 miles per hour while carrying the ball.
• Lacrosse was originally played on a field that was up to several miles long, with hundreds of players on each team. Today, the standard field is much smaller, with only 10 players per team.
• The first recorded lacrosse game between two colleges was played in 1877, between Harvard and Montreal’s McGill University.
• The world's largest lacrosse ball, weighing in at over 600 pounds, is on display at the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in Baltimore, Maryland.
